I'd recommend trying the demo and seeing if you like it.
The game is slow paced however so you'll have more time to react and get a good idea of what the situation is like.

Your capital ships are 'heroes' in the game with upgrades and whatnot and you had several different tech trees to persue. The expansion to the computer game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, known as The Frozen Throne, had an active professional competition scene, particularly in China, Germany, and South Korea.The game was featured at eSports festivals including the World Cyber Games, the Electronic Sports World Cup, the World e-Sports Games, the World Series of Video Games and the International E-Sports Festival. It was a combination of Warcraft 3 and Homeworld. I would recommend trying Sins of a Solar Empire. Unfortunately the boss showdowns are more tedious then anything else. You have squads of troops and go about killing enemy squads to reach the final point for a boss showdown. The closest comparison would be those missions where you don't have any buildings and are exploring a cave or country side - like the 1st and 3rd Alliance missions in the original Warcraft 3. There's a host of other differences between the two - but needless to say I don't recommend trying out World of Warcraft if you're looking for a game that is similar to Warcraft 3.ĭawn of War 2 is somewhat like Warcraft 3 - but also very very different.

WoW should have a free 10 day trial though - but unless you're a leveling nut you will see a very small portion of the game this way. The best way to get a feel for WoW if you don't want to actually pick it up and play it would be to play the Orc Campaign in the Warcraft 3 expansion - but instead of controlling 3 characters only use the beastman you gain at the start of the game. army where you build structures and a force of arms to destroy the enemy town/army. These fall into one of three or four categories (kill X wolves, collect X wolf pelts, bring wolf pelt to person Y, go to X before the timer expires) but the game is easy/fast enough that the tedium is lost. WoW's gameplay consists of (mostly) doing quests.

Warcraft 3 can be played offline or online but you tend to play solo most of the time. WoW has you playing online all the time (you can not play offline) in a persistant world with hundreds of other people. You control one character alone in WoW - you tend to control groups of units in an RTS. World of Warcraft is a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer On-line Role Playing Game) while Warcraft 3 is a RTS (Real Time Strategy).
They take place in the same world and as such have the same background/lore to them but that's about the limit of the similarities. World of Warcraft and Warcraft 3 are completely different games.
